Atelier Max Lipsey
New Constructions / Experimental furniture in glass and steel wire.
In New Constructions, Atelier Max Lipsey presents a collection of experimental furniture made from steel wire and slumped glass. The series started with a fascination for space-frame truss roofs, airplane hangars and radio telescope constructions. Through experiment, Lipsey emulates these complex constructions on a small, almost delicate scale. The constructions are then combined with glass in the kiln. The slumped surfaces become table tops and lights. The collection of furniture pieces seeks to bring this fascination of material and structure into interior scale spaces.
Max Lipsey is an American designer based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. After receiving a BA at New York University, he graduated the Design Academy Eindhoven Bachelors in 2007. His studio, since 2008, has been a personal platform to: develop and self-produce his own designs, work with companies on mass production, and reach out to initiate group projects. “My personal work reflects my fascinations with nature, material, craft, history and making…and to bring these fascinations into an object.”
