This Dutch Design Week I will be presenting two carpets based on a ceramic object I made. Here’s where it all began some twelve years ago..
My journey in becoming a designer really only began during my time working for Marcel Wanders. With Delft Blue and mosaics as inspiration we created patterns and objects with the main aim to share beauty with others. One moment that stood out when working at the studio was when Marcel spoke to us about the magic of a simple toy kaleidoscope. How such a seemingly trivial toy could be a portal to a world of wonders. While working at the studio I felt love and appreciation in everything. We were “an army of love”. Surrounded by such creativity, I flourished, and that nurturing environment set the foundation for the path I follow today.
Now, twelve years later, I find myself working with damaged ceramics from the Moooi collection by Royal Delft. One particular piece holds special meaning for me, created with the same kaleidoscope that once inspired Marcel’s story—a tribute to the influence he has had on my creative development. His guidance shaped my design voice, and now I strive to spread beauty through my work.
Royal Delft has been integral to this process. Welcomed warmly by Joffrey Walonker, I was given the opportunity to transform damaged materials into something unexpected and meaningful—pieces that surprised even me.
