Wedge Furniture: Beyond Plywood
Wedge Furniture is a research-driven, tool-free furniture system by industrial designer Robert Pludra. Based on a simple wedge-joint construction, it eliminates the need for screws, adhesives or permanent fittings, allowing the furniture to be easily assembled, disassembled and recycled.
Developed over several years through laminated plywood prototypes, the project is now moving beyond plywood to explore recycled and circular materials. The aim is to retain the simplicity of the original system while investigating how alternative materials can open new possibilities for more sustainable furniture production. Presented at Dutch Design Week 2026, Wedge Furniture: Beyond Plywood introduces this new phase of the project through prototypes and material experimentation.
The project is co-financed by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage under the Creative Industries Institute programme “Development of Creative Sectors”.
