Structural Aspect

XYZ series

The operation of the construction can be traced back to three dimensions: the x, y and z axis. When you block these three axes, a construction is created. This simple principle forms the basis of our design philosophy and the starting point for the XYZ Series.

From these parameters, we developed a series of furniture using a CNC milling machine as our primary tool. With this machine, we reinterpret the traditional miter joint through computer-controlled precision. Rather than using multiple tools or techniques, the machine mills every connection using a single milling tool: a 45-degree chamfer mill.

Once the milling process is complete, we are left with the flat layout of the furniture piece — a two-dimensional blueprint of chamfered edges and connections. From there, we fold every individual piece together by hand, transforming the flat layout into a three-dimensional piece of furniture.

The result is a series that bridges traditional craftsmanship and digital fabrication, showing how a single tool and a clear set of rules can generate an entire family of furniture.
