Love is in the Hair

‘Love is in the Hair’ is an installation of intricately woven textiles made from discarded hair extensions, honouring the beauty and potential of the material and the art of weaving. It draws attention to our deeper connection with our hair, an essential part of our identity that reflects personal preferences and style. We show it, cover it, or remove it as an expression of our personality and the social and cultural groups to which we feel connected.

Strangely, the value we place on hair disappears the moment it is cut and falls to the salon floor. Focusing on the transition from appreciating our hair to deeming it to be waste, Studio Savine aims to give this treasured material a new life. It highlights the swift shift from appreciating hair to feeling disgusted by it, even though it is the same material. The installation reveals hair as a valuable resource and provides people the opportunity to encounter the qualities of wasted hair extensions in their second life.
